Passive Candidates are (sometimes) the best Candidates

As a recruiter, it is our job to find the best possible candidates for the openings we are working on. This means we search high and low for that right person that is ready to take a leap. However, more often than not, that "perfect" candidate isn't just waiting on someone to reach out or for the job to be posted. They actually aren't waiting at all. They are rocking and rolling in their role, and they are in content with their company. But that's where we step in...

Let's put this in the perspective of the potential candidate.... You are ending your workday when you come across a LinkedIn message from a recruiter with a tiny snippet of a role that COULD be a good fit. However, you are happy, comfortable and thriving in your current role, why would you make a move now?
First of all, taking a call with a recruiter doesn't mean you have to move forward with a role. It is simply a discovery call to see if this role is even worth entertaining or even if it is not, you could know of someone within your network that would be a great fit. Sometimes taking the call might not benefit you, but it could help someone else who is looking for a new role. We can all agree that hospitality is a small community and very well connected, so it doesn't hurt to discuss opportunities with a recruiter who has a good grasp on the industry. Maybe you learn you are underpaid and it's time to ask for a promotion, maybe this new role provides a work life balance you don't currently have or maybe the company culture of this new role aligns better with your goals and values. What I am saying here is:
It doesn't hurt to take the call.
It may benefit you.
It may benefit others.
It COULD lead to your dream job you didn't even know existed.
Now for the clients' perspective. Hiring managers engage in recruiters to find the best possible candidates for their openings, why else would they pay the fee to do so? So, it is our job, as a recruiting partner, to find the best possible candidate. It is easy to post a job on the different job boards and websites but what's not easy is finding the candidate who isn't out there looking for applying. We want to seek out the candidates who aren't easy to find. The ones who aren't desperate for a new role. We want to find those that are content in their role but are open to really great opportunities. I always say, it's easier to find a job when you have a job, so passive candidates are a great fit because they aren't burned out but they are also willing to take a leap for a company worth doing so for!
So, if you are a candidate who is happy but open to listening to what is out there - let us know. If you are client needing us to search high and low for that special candidate, we are here to help!
